Join us on a spring walk around Hainault Forest, an inspiring landscape on the fringes of London and Essex with a range of different habitats. The forest is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a crucial part of Redbridge for wildlife. What’s more, it is also a site with a history that is crucial to the birth of the conservation movement in the 19th century. Francis Castro, a key figure in the restoration of Hainault habitats for biodiversity, will lead us on a two-hour walk from the Forest cafe (at IG7 4QN, just off Romford Road), where we will finish for a well-deserved cuppa. Numbers have to be restricted to 20, so please book early! Getting there: If going by bus, the 247 bus from Barkingside drops you at the front of the Forest, and from there it is a 5-minute walk to the café. You can also catch the 247 from outside Hainault tube station if you want to combine tube and bus.
