This is the time to look out for the variety of mushrooms and toadstools that may pop-up almost anywhere.
Most of our summer bird visitors have disappeared, but on the Flats the perky Stonchat (top) will either be easy to see or elusive. Winter thrushes are starting to arrive from the North. Look out for flocks of Redwing (below) “seeping” as they pass overhead and the larger Fieldfare with their chuckling call. Both will soon settle and forage for berries.
