Happy New Year! Could there be any better way to start off the New Year than with a search for plants flowering in Leytonstone? Not a question that has often crossed my mind, so I was a little surprised by the proposal from Tricia Moxety to do just that as part of the 7th Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland’s New Year plant survey.
It was a popular event with 27 others turning-up outside St John’s church. We couldn’t get into the churchyard, but logged a few hardy flowers right next to the wall, and proceeded below Matalan up towards Tesco and through to the Green Man Roundabout. Tricia described the plants, their habits and interesting facts about how they survive in such unpromising sites.
A huge success with 37 plant species in flower. See the Winter Newsletter for Tricia’s report.
